Sechzig Ausstellungen werden in der außergewöhnlichen Umgebung von Arles gezeigt. Die Stadt hat mit ihren Kirchen aus dem 12. Jahrhundert einerseits und modernen Industriebauten andererseits ein ganz eigenes Flair.
![]() In dieser besonderen Umgebung lässt es sich über Fotografie in der Weise austauschen wie sonst nirgendwo. Große Teile des ausgestellten Programms wurden noch nie zuvor präsentiert, die Rencontres d'Arles Ausstellungen gehen anschließend auf Reisen und werden an anderen wichtigen internationalen Ausstellungsorten gezeigt. Die Rencontres erfüllen ihre Rolle als Förderer von Fotografen und Fotografie in einer pädagogischen und einer festiven Weise, insbesondere durch der hohe Dichte der Veranstaltungen in und um Arles während des Sommers. Die Eröffnungswoche vom 2. bis 8. Juli ist eine Zeit für Debatten, Symposien, Buchpräsentationen und Ausstellungsbesuche, die frei und für jedermann zugänglich sind. Es ist die Gelegenheit für informelle Begegnungen mit Fachleuten aus der ganzen Welt. Die Rencontres d'Arles ist eine Non-Profit-Organisation, deren Budget sich aus 46% staatlicher Förderung, 18% Sponsoring und 36% aus Ticketverkäufen, Einnahmen aus Werkshops und Retail zusammensetzt.
